Spencer Hetherington is an award-winning filmmaker from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.
Spencer began making videos with his friends around the age of 10. As the years went on, he quickly developed a passion for telling stories through film. In high school he entered the ViewFinders Youth Film Competition (now FIN Kids), put on by the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His short films Short, The Island, and Relic went on to win the Grand Prize, three years in a row. He was also selected as a National Finalist in the TIFF Next Wave Young Filmmakers Showcase with his film Taper Head and had two of his films, Short and Relic featured on the CBC television series Reel East Coast.
Spencer has also made several independent projects, most notably Old Flame – A Super 8 Story. The film screened at various festivals, including the Academy Awards® Qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival and the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival. It took home two awards at the Silver Wave Film Festival for excellence in sound design and picture editing. It was also featured in the UK based Short Focus magazine. His most recent short film The Last Echo also won awards at the Silver Wave Film Festival for excellence in sound design and art direction.
